☆☆☆

Based on the play "Aware She's a Whore" by John Ford, a 17th century playwright.

Luchino Visconti, who wanted to make a film of this play, adapted it for the stage with Alain Delon and Romy Schneider in the cast, but it was never made into a movie.

The music is by Ennio Morricone, who we just heard about.

Cinematography by Vittorio Storaro.

This film is a collection of the best of Italian cinema from the 60s and 70s.

I was overwhelmed by the sense of beauty that pervaded every corner of the work. The stone castle, the rooms of Italian modern art, the gorgeous costumes, the beautiful scenery of northern Italy… everything is like a painting and makes me sigh.

In particular, he was very particular about his outfits: a dress made of Italian wool tweed, a servant's cloak made of monkey fur, a knitted shirt made of linen, a gown made of wool knitted to be as transparent as possible… I wouldn't be surprised if he appeared in the collections of Chanel or Yves Saint Laurent this autumn/winter. I would not be surprised to see them in the collections of Chanel or Yves Saint Laurent this fall/winter.

In particular, the sheer wool gown is an unlikely item, and although she wears it in the brutal scene where Anabella's husband, Soranzo, grabs her by the hair and drags her around, the elegance of the gown makes the film take a back seat.

Also, since it was made in 1971, the same year as "Death in Venice" and the year of the original "pretty boy" movies, the actors in the movie were too good-looking! This is another factor that makes the story difficult to follow, and although I recommend it to those who like dark faces, it seems a bit unrealistic.

Oliver Tobias, who plays the older brother, is beautiful, but his acting seems to be exaggerated, and he doesn't seem to be the type of actor that you can easily get emotionally involved with.

Charlotte Rampling, who played Anabella in "The Storm of Love," is another story for another time, but she is still very young in this film, and you can feel her childish and honest emotions of loving her brother but also being attracted to her husband, Soranzo. It's a film in which you can feel her solid acting ability.

The end of the Renaissance in 16th and 17th century Italy. A horrible tragedy that took place in a beautiful fairy-tale world at a time when everything was beginning to decay and smell of rot. There is no other story that contains everything about Europe like this one.
